Architecture Project
    Salalah, Oman
KABC developed a concept masterplan for the integrated 21st century ecofriendly residential/resort destination in Salalah, located on a pristine beach front. This destination combines the convenience of cultivated living with supreme recreational facilities, an untouched wildlife area, lush botanical gardens, sophisticated retail, and a spectacular network of undulating foot trails, lively squares, and peaceful waterscapes.

Within the Khawr Awqad community we find the eco resort, a unique destination for eco-tourists. To the north of the site, the main building of the resort that opens towards the creek side with a series of treelined terraces and courtyards. Based on a contemporary interpretation of a Dhofari fort, the architecture varies in scale and character to give the resort building a uniquely Dhofari look and feel. Green micro-gardens, along with water features and carefully designed community areas promote the sustainable aspects of the resort.

Landscaped outdoor terraces with a variety of dining options create inviting opportunities for social gatherings and formal and informal business meetings. The resort components are planned in such a way that it follows the topography and natural characteristics of the site, gradually decreasing in mass and density as resort components approach the wetlands while opening up to the creek and waterfront.
The main building is conceived as a gateway to the north of the site furthest away from the protected wetland area. Here is where most of the activity takes place in the various courtyards and restaurants, all of which have an immediate access to the exterior terraces overlooking the creek. In addition to the restaurants on-site, tourists have the opportunity to cross a small bridge, which brings them to the residential community and Riverwalk.

The heart of the resort is created by an extensive three-dimensional poolscape that features an extensive array of hot and cool water pools, a children’s pool, a rain curtain and a pool café. Towards the south, the resort is organized in a series of one and two-storey guest villas nestled in loose clusters in the open landscape, permeated by shaded clusters of trees, shaded walkways, and beautiful lawns where guests can enjoy sunbathing and reading. State-of-the art LEED based interiors offer a healthy living environment for guests.
